I know that a great many RE shooters are loath to move things around in a particular scene because it is very time-consuming to do so, which might impact timing of subsequent shoots on that day. In this instance, though, given that it’s clearly a “money shot” room, I think that taking a few extra minutes to move the near sofa and coffee table would have allowed for the “opening up” of the space in front of the fireplace. I also think that the photographer would have been better served by moving as much as possible to the left and panning right. As it stands now, we are seeing several feet of the third wall and I don't think it's adding that much value to the shot. Making such a pan to the right also would have placed the fireplace hearth of much closer to the bottom-right power-point position (in a rule-of-thirds driven comp) and, as such, made it a more pleasing composition. Kudos to the photographer for nice WB and contrast, as well as a lovely window pull. Indeed, a very smart choice to show so much detail and intense colour in that view, as doing so really balances/counters all the white in the scene.

Very nice. Such good colors, contrast, and detail. The window exposure and greenery outside are beautifully handled. I agree completely with Tony about stepping forward and panning right. And if furniture-moving were an option, pulling the right-side sofa back a bit further on the rug. I find the cool light hitting the side of the ‘horse’ chair to be a little distracting (is that light from window behind and right of camera?) Also wondering how it might affect the shot if one of the doors were opened.

I agree with Tony and Julie’s comments. Their suggestions would have made this a far more pleasing image. Are those inside shutters on the side of the windows? I’m curious if it was intentional to leave the far left one open a bit?

Thanks for the critique, all.
